About the Role

Pleasant Land Distillery is one of the UK’s leading contract manufacturers, creating outstanding products from scratch in our sustainable distillery. Since 2022, we've been providing innovative contract distilling services across multiple spirit categories while developing our own premium product lines. We pride ourselves on combining traditional craft with sustainable practices and cutting-edge, global innovation. The business has grown rapidly and continues to do so.

We're seeking a hands on distiller to join our team on a 6-month fixed term contract, with strong potential for extension based on performance and business needs. You'll play a crucial role in our production operations, working across both contract distilling projects and our own product development. Reporting to the Head Distiller, this role is specifically to bolster our distilling team in order to deliver a large whisky contract whilst maintaining current operations. The role is located at the distillery in Aldington, Kent, remote working is not appropriate.

For the right candidate, this role offers the opportunity to work on the most exciting raw materials and alcohol categories. It is physically demanding and requires lateral thinking, diligence, teamwork and passion to deliver these delicious, interesting and often complex products.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain distillation equipment including pot and column stills
  • Execute production runs according to specifications for both contract clients and house brands
  • Monitor and control mashing, milling and fermentation processes
  • Monitor and control filtration processes
  • Ensure consistent product quality through sensory evaluation and technical analysis
  • Maintain accurate production records and batch documentation
  • Implement and follow strict health & safety and quality control procedures
  • Assist with raw material handling, intake and inventory management
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of production processes
  • Assisting in cleaning and maintenance as required


Essential Requirements

  • Experience working in a physically demanding, fast paced production environment
  • Strong understanding of distillation principles and fermentation science
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, dynamic team
  • Physical capability to handle grain sacks, move barrels/IBCs, and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work in shifts 1000-1800 or 0600-1400
  • Live in or relocate to the South Kent area
  • Be eligible to work in the UK and hold a relevant visa


Desirable Skills

  • General Certificate in Distilling (or equivalent qualification)
  • Knowledge of different spirit categories (whisky, gin, rum, vodka, etc.)
  • Understanding of sustainable production practices
  • Forklift license
  • WSET or similar alcohol production qualification
